Desiree Morrell Carter, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, was recognized at the annual CityBusiness Women of the Year luncheon on November 3, as a member of the 2016 class of honorees.
According to New Orleans CityBusiness, Women of the Year recognizes 50 women from the area whose successes in business and contributions to the community have made them movers and shakers in the region. Honorees are innovative leaders who are making waves with their energy, ideas, achievements and commitment to excellence in the area. Honorees are selected based on business and community involvement and achievement that have set the pace for the overall community.
Morrell Carter is a board-certified LSU Health psychiatrist who treats patients with emergent mental health needs in the Emergency Department at University Medical Center, as well as patients in rural areas of Terrebonne, Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes through LSU Health New Orleans’ Telemedicine Program. She also educates LSU Health New Orleans medical students and helps train residents – the next generations of psychiatrists.
The need for mental health services has never been greater in our community and across the state, compounded by the numerous disasters over the last decade. “Serving the most vulnerable in our community is a challenge, but a pleasure,” says Morrell Carter.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by CityBusiness for doing what I love to do,” notes Morrell Carter.
To Carter Morrell, it is a shared honor. "Thank you to all of my Psychiatry and Emergency Department colleagues for all their support and guidance."
